Visualizing the 1920 Census in
Boulder, CO, Distinguished Speakers Board,
I am currently a marketing assistant at CU Presents. I work as part of a small team to promote
CU’s Performing Arts, including CU College of Music and Theatre and Dance events, the Artist Series,
and the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. I build event pages on Facebook, the CU Presents website, and other
event websites. I have also updated CU Present’s digital properties for our Google+ Business listings,
Tripadvisor, Yelp, and our other locations on the web. I also design and implement Facebook Ads campaigns.
A background in user-centered design has helped me construct CU Present’s web presence. It’s been great
experience in thinking about a user’s perspective when looking at a webpage. It informed decisions about
what information should be displayed and what media content would be most likely engaged with.
The Emotive Computing Lab is housed in CU’s Institute of Cognitive Science.
The lab focuses on developing models of human cognitive and affective states,
and incorporating those models into intelligent technologies.
I am currently working with the team at CU to develop cognitive and affective supports for
a game called Physics Playground. The game was developed by a team at Florida State University
to help kids learn physics by completing challenges in an interface that conforms to the laws of physics.
We are working on developing supports that can be integrated into the game’s user interface that will help
students manage negative emotions (affective), and supports to enforce physics learning (cognitive).
The bottom two pictures above show examples of animations that can be introduced into gameplay to help
students solve levels.
I assist with conducting survey studies (mainly with qualtrics)
that assess people's’ performance and emotional states during gameplay.
I am currently beginning with a team to develop UX for a service that helps
teachers with professional development.
I am currently working with other students to build a web service that will serve as a central location to find all office hours in a certain class. Our research showed that students typically had to search multiple sources to find office hours. We developed low fidelity mockups and testing allowed us to create an efficient, single page layout that allows students to customize their college, department, and class. There is also an option to toggle student view or administrator view. We are currently continuing to test these prototypes while beginning development.
I currently serve as Vice President of CU’s Senior Class Council.
We are responsible for planning and promoting events aimed at seniors,
and providing information about commencement ceremonies and the graduation process.
I oversee most of the marketing and outreach of the council including social media, recruitment,
and event advertising campaigns. For example, we are currently developing a website. Above are samples
from my prototype of the site. They were designed using Sketch.
This project is a study of the 1920 census data from Boulder County. I am focusing on the foreign
born population and looking for trends within these populations. I am using Tableau to create data
visualizations. I received a Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) grant to work on the
project in the summer of 2018.
The goal of the project is to convert census data into a compelling story of immigrant history in
Colorado. It has taught me a lot about data visualization and how to present findings and research in
a concise way that anyone can understand.
I served as Director of Public Relations of CU’s Distinguished Speakers Board from 2017 to 2018.
I oversaw the marketing campaigns for our Dr. Brené Brown and Anderson Cooper events. This included
social media and digital advertising, print advertising, DSB’s branding, and DSB member recruitment.
The Anderson Cooper event was our 15th anniversary event. I developed special branding for this and
worked on a small team that produced a media-based curated Q&A with Anderson Cooper.
